This is a comparative interpretation of selected poems by Tymoteusz Karpowicz and Ezra Pound. It presents a reading of 20th century Polish poetry in the context of Anglo-American modernism. Tree Rings, the last volume of Tymoteusz Karpowicz, one of the leaders of the postwar Polish avant-garde, are set against some of The Pisan Cantos, a landmark of American modernism. What links Karpowicz’s poems (Stone music, From Behind the Glasses, High Biting) and Pound’s Canto LXXV, parts of Canto LXXIX, Canto LXXXI and Canto LXXXII is their evocation of music.
